The necessity of a platform for ex studentof the college was first envisioned by Miss Gertrude Marian Wright , the then Principal of the college and the same was established on 3rd September, 1921. It was named as“Old Students Guild”, which was changed to “Old Students Association”, in 1934. The objective of the association was to act as a bridge between ex students and present students and also to help the administration in the development of the college.
With time, the activities of the association expanded.Ex students started participating in various cultural and social activities of the college with the kind support of Mrs. Mrinalini Emmerson, the principal at that time.
In 1963, ex students first enacted a drama under the support of Dr. DiptiTripathy, the then Principal of the college.
In 1971, the Golden Jubilee of the Association was celebrated in a befitting manner.
On 08.05.1991, the “Old Students’ Association” was renamed as“Bethune College Sammilani” and was duly.registered under Society Registration Act of the Government.
It is now a broader platform where not only the ex students but also the ex-teachers and the present teachers can join. Since then Bethune College Sammilani is gradually extending its horizons with multiple activities. Sammilani is organizing seminars, symposiums, felicitations , get together, awarding different prizes, collecting donations for victims of natural calamity.

The alumni of the college . made their mark in all walks of life. The luminaries include Freedom Fighters, Educationists, Doctors, Scientists, Literary, Social Activists, Cultural and Sports personalities, Political leaders, Administrators, Directors of different Institutes, Principals of different colleges including Bethune college, Vice Chancellor and Dean of Universities, among others. The Alumni received different prestigious national and international awards like Padmashree, SantiswarupBhatnagar and also their names are included as a 2% Scientists of the world , published from Standford University.

Bethune College Sammilani completed hundred years of glorious and eventful journey on 3rd September 2022. It was celebrated in befitting manner. In this occasion an edited book on woman literary of Bengal LikonoTomar : Katha SahityeBangaNari was published. Following the footsteps of Chandramukhi Bose and KadambiniBasu the first two lady graduates in India, both being the alumnus of Bethune College, the Sammilani is being the torch of Women’s education and empowerment and is committed to keep the torch burning brighter and brighter and keep the flag higher and higher.
